Glendronach Distillery
Forgue By Huntly, Huntly, Aberdeenshire

Project

Established in 1826, The Glendronach Distillery is one of Scotland’s oldest licensed distilleries and a significant part of the country’s whisky-making heritage. Located in the rural valley of Forgue, the site is characterised by its traditional stone buildings, mature landscape, and its close connection to the surrounding farmland and water sources that have shaped its production for almost two centuries.

Glendronach has long been recognised for its sherry cask-matured single malts and its continued use of time-honoured methods, contributing to its standing within Scotland’s wider whisky industry and among a growing international audience.

We have been appointed by Brown-Forman to lead a multi-phase redevelopment at Glendronach Distillery. As whisky tourism continues to expand, the project seeks to enhance the visitor experience, improve sustainability and accessibility, and safeguard the historic fabric of the site for future generations.

The redevelopment includes:

  • Restoration of Boynesmill House, home to distillery founder James Allardyce.
  • New landscape and external works to enhance accessibility, biodiversity, and mitigate flood risk.
  • Adaptation of the historic bonded warehouse to create a new retail and whisky tasting experience.
  • Support for the distillery’s transition to a low-carbon, centralised heat network across the site.

Project timeline: Phase 1 is scheduled for completion by mid-2026, while planning for Phase 2 was approved in May 2025.
